History

The «Calculation Centre» was established in the 1970s at «La Sapienza» University’s Institute of Haematology, where it first began to collect data. The three people working there had a logistically very complex job. Without the computer technology that became available in later years, they would copy the patients’ data by hand and then analyse them using big sheets of paper, hand-written print-outs in different colours, with erasures and more or less legible handwriting …

The operational facility

GIMEMA Data Centre’s operational facility comprises four macro units: central management, planning and analysis, clinical trials management, secretariat.

The Data Centre’s main activities are:

  • Organisation and planning of clinical trials.

  • Development of protocols for conducting clinical trials, from the clinical hypothesis to statistical validation.

The Data Centre has developed a series of internal operational procedures, in conformity with international standards of best clinical practice, guaranteeing consistency, efficiency and homogeneity of activities within the facility.

Subsequent to regular external validation processes, the Data Centre is certified UNI EN ISO 9001:2018 for the activity of «Planning, implementation and management of clinical trials» and for «Organising and holding events and training courses»…
